The most popular malls are the Somerset and Tygerberg Malls, V&A Waterfront (be sure to visit the Craft Market), Century City, Cavendish Square, not to mention the Galleries, Boutiques and individual shops and Markets.  Overseas credit cards are accepted and most upmarket brands of clothing are generally cheaper here.


A. Sightseeing

Eco & Nature
Nature lovers are spoilt for choice. The Helderberg Nature Reserve offers magnificent walks and hiking trails where guests can marvel at the indigenous flora and fauna. The Dick Dent Bird Sanctuary (Somerset West), World of Birds (Hout Bay) and Intaka Island Bird Sanctuary (Century City), provide a fascinating opportunity to view the Capes
bird life. Other opportunities are the Kirstenbosch Gardens, the Helderberg Reserve walkways and the Jonkershoek and Tafelberg Reserves.The Two Oceans Aquarium, Penguins, Flower Shows and the Whale festival in August are not to be missed.

Safaris offered by Sabonamza are one of the best ways to experience the Cape's wildlife, just a short drive away. Various game reserves offer the chance to see the Big 5, while the Kruger National Park and many others throughout South Africa offer a truly African experience. Monkey Town in Somerset West offers visitors the chance to view 27 different monkey species from around the world.

Cape Town and Peninsula
A vibrant city steeped in history, Cape Town offers many attractions for the visitor including a trip in a cable car to Table Mountain, walks on the promenades of Sea Point, Camps Bay and Clifton,and beautiful, sea view drives along Chapman's Peak. Visit the beaches of Cape Point, Hout Bay, False Bay, Boulders or the Aquarium and Maritime Museum at the V&A Waterfront.

Routes / Day trips
There are unlimited opportunities in the Region for day trips. Go for cheese and wine tasting in Stellenbosch, Helderberg, Franschoek or Paarl. Or you can visit the Overberg, where a short drive to Hermanus allows for the Southern Right Whale to be spotted, while the Fruit Tour in Grabouw, a visit to Villiers Dorp dam or a visit to the tip of Africa at Cape Agulhas offer a day you will never forget. Travel to the West Coast, which has breathtaking flowers, bird watching and the quaint fishing village of Paternoster. The incomparable garden route also has many sights not to be missed, including Mossel Bay, Wilderness, Kynsna, Klein Karoo and Oudshoorn, the ostrich capital of South Africa. The Cederberg wilderness, a large area of mountainous terrain, conserves a phenomenal diversity of Fynbos, succulent Karoo plants and endemic freshwater fish, and is known for the delicious citrus produced there. Lastly, the Cape Karoo offers attractions such as a carpet of flowers in a vast array of colours, stunning birdlife and the cities of Prince Albert and Beaufort West.

B.Culture & Heritage:

Experience all that is uniquely Cape Town with a variety of activities and tours to see local life and historical sites. Visit the famous Robben Island penitentiary from the apartheid era,
which was the home of Nelson Mandela for twenty years. You can also book a Township tour to experience local lifestyle and view some of the original bead work and handicrafts. The historical buildings are well worth visiting, such as the Castle and the historical university town of Stellenbosch. Other sites of interest include the Company Gardens, and the famous Bo Kaap (Cape Malay Quarter).

Annual cultural events are regularly held in the Cape. The Cape Town Jazz Festival is just one of the world-renowned events held in the Cape. For further details please consult your host, the internet and/or the press.

Art Galleries and Museums: The Cape Peninsula has many talented local artists. See
the works of all current, leading and contemporary South African artists. A visit to the South African National Gallery and William Fehr Collection in the Cape of Good Hope Castle for a look at traditional African painting and sculptures is recommended, and Anne, an artist herself will be glad to recommend galleries of interest. Worth visiting are the S-African, Gold, Diamond, District 6 and Groote Schuur Museums.

Entertainment: Cape Town buzzes after dark, with a host of clubs, theatres, concerts, art movies and the Grand West Casino offering something for everyone. Local bands such as Freshly Ground and Ladysmith Black Mambazo have scheduled concerts. The well-known Long Street has restaurants, bars and clubs on each side. Live Comedy is also often scheduled, and the famous Cape Town International Jazz Festival is held
every year.

Kite-surfing
on Cape Town's long stretches of open beach

Quad biking:
Quad biking is a fun, adventurous and exciting way to experience some of the Western Cape’s great outdoor regions. Book from a variety of Quad Bike tour options of varying lengths, from half-day to 3 day expeditions. You can take a guided quad bike tour on a farm, visit Elgin Valley just an hour's drive away or bike along the highest mountain route to Landroskop at the Hottentots Holland Nature Reserve, among others.

4x4: The Cape has many off-road and 4x4 trails available for those who love to see nature up close. Hire a 4x4, fully equipped with roof-top tents and everything else you may need on your off-road adventure. Route 62 is a popular, scenic tourist route which meanders from Cape Town up to Port Elizabeth. There are a number of 4x4 trails available along it, such as the Leopard Trail Route which runs along the slope of the Langeberg mountains overlooking the Breed River Valley, the Hessequas 4x4 Trail which takes almost a full day to complete and features waterholes, rocky climbs, sand, river beds and more and the Kliphuiskloof Route through Ceres, featuring steep rocky and sandy stretches. Set up camp in the great outdoors, enjoying clear skies and unpolluted, gorgeous stretches of wilderness.

Bungee jumping: Some of the best bungee sites are in the Western Cape from incredibly high bridges. One of the most famous and highest jumps is at Bloukrans along the Garden Route, or dry jump off Gourietz River Bridge. Definitely for the adrenaline-junkie.

Canoeing/Rafting: Trips are offered on many rivers with varying levels of experience necessary. Experience white-water rafting on the Breede, Orange or Berg Rivers.

Deep Sea Diving/Fishing: With both the Indian and Atlantic oceans, opportunities for fishing abound. Some of the world's finest game fishing is available in and around Cape Town, particulary long and yellow fin tuna, as well as broad billed swordfish. Scuba diving is also popular along the coastline. Great White sharks and whales are often seen, with shark cage diving provided in Gansbaai and other beaches.

Horse Racing/Riding: The J&B Met and the Durban July are highlights in the social calendar. In Cape Town there are two main tracks - Kenilworth and Durbanville - where racing takes place every Wednesday and Saturday afternoon. For social riding in the area, you hosts will advise you on whom to contact.

Motorcycling: With many mountain passes, the Cape provides an exhilarating ride with amazing scenery. The Gordon's Bay coastal road is also a well-known motorcyling route. You can hire a Harley Chauffeur Ride, or embark on Sidecar Adventures (BMW). 

Mountain Biking: A popular pastime amongst residents, you too can explore the mountain slopes or ride through the Winelands. Choose from strenous rides to easy for the beginner.

Abseiling: Abseil "The Long Drop" on Table Mountain. It is 112 metres of absolute fun. Numerous other abseiling oppportunities exist, with skilled instructors.

Surfing: Another widely practiced sport in Cape Town, Big Bay in Blouberg is home to the Gunston 500 Surfing Competition. Surf lessons can be booked for the beginner, offering hours of fun as you learn to paddle and understand the waves. You can also experience kite-surfing on Cape Town's long stretches of open beach, offering ideal  learning conditions and steady side shore winds.

Skydiving: Experience true freedom as you freefall from incredible heights and unparalleled views of the Cape. Beginner to advanced levels are offered.

Boat Cruises: Watch the sun go down in the comfort of a luxury boat with a cruise in Table Bay or around any of the Cape's beautiful beaches.

Airborn flips: View the Cape from above, with plane or helicopter tours starting in Cape Town to take you around the peninsula or even to the Karoo.

Ratanga Junction: Get your adrenaline pumping and have some fun at Cape Town’s very own amusement park at Century City/Canal Walk.
